Why do we wait to get ill?
Prevention is better than cure, as I was reminded by a good friend today. Its great advice that we need to remember and take positive steps towards,
Look at it this way, we vaccinate our children against childhood diseases in fear of them getting ill in later life. We purchase umbrellas in anticipation of rain and getting wet. We obtain travel insurance when we go away in case of any accidents. We even service our cars regularly to ensure smooth motoring.
BUT, we don’t service our own bodies!
Why is that?
Is it the cost?
The time involved?
The discomfort?
My answer would be that you cannot put a price on good health, however, we all live by a budget so how can we afford these treatments?
Lets reverse that instead and look at the other side, can we afford to be ill? Off work? In pain?
Loss of earnings or the cost of regular treatments?
Treatments are definitely cheaper in this instance.
Time involved…well for healthy maintenance you are probably looking at one hour a month (to yourself).
That’s got to be better than a week off work ill.
Discomfort… well reflexology is very relaxing and calms the mind, plus did I mention that you lie on a heated couch with soothing music, aromatherapy in the air and do nothing yourself for 45mins! Hardly discomfort. As for acupuncture, well the needles may occasionally have a sharpness to them but once in you can relax and even nap during the session (many do).
So let’s invest in our health for the future and avoid sick days, painkillers, doctors visit’s and loss of earnings. I mean can you really afford to be ill and off work? Who wants to be in pain and reliant on painkillers? I know I don’t.
Treatments such as Acupuncture and Reflexology aren’t just for when you are ill or when you need to relax, they can prevent illness too. Through balancing the body and allowing it to heal itself we can stay healthy and fight off germs easily. Add to this some naturopathic principles of good nutrition, water, exercise etc and you are on the road to health.
You need to take responsibility for your own health.
